Wildfire Bursary in partnership with Cariboo Bethel Church
Summer 2017 was not as anticipated as we cancelled the summer camping season due to the wildfires in Williams Lake and the surrounding Cariboo region. This summer, Camp Likely’s backyard was destroyed by fire. The community of Williams Lake was evacuated, and these fires impacted thousands of people’s summer plans, and livelihoods.
The decision to cancel the camp season came due to multiple factors. Up until July 15th, we had 103 campers and 45 staff and adult volunteers anticipating to be a part of our camp season.
Many of our campers were directly affected by these fires and had to change their summer plans, and missed out on the opportunity of a week spent at Camp Likely. As well, due to the change in summer plans, work schedules, evacuation of Williams Lake and fire damage we anticipate that it will be difficult for many families to consider the cost of camp for the 2018 season.
We want all campers to be able to come to camp and cost not be a hindrance for the opportunity to meet new friends, make memories, be outside and have fun! With the generous support of Cariboo Bethel, we have money available to help support families send their kids to camp this summer!
